03 Mar Featured Vendor: Detroit Trash Opens A Store!
As a patron of the Melrose Trading Post, you may be familiar with Detroit Trash and their innovative displays. Every Sunday the family of artists sets up at the bottom of the main staircase leading up to the food court. Their jewelry made of tiny antique pieces and is put together by Sydney and her mother Tiffany. Sunny May is the youngest of the family, and her visionary artwork is proudly displayed on the staircase. Matthew, the father of the family, is a man with an eye for antiques and the talent to build, restore and repurpose antique finds into new treasures. Visiting this family at the market on Sundays gives you a glimpse into the creativity and love infused in Detroit Trash.
Now you don’t have to wait until Sunday to see them!
The Allison family now has a store on Beverly Boulevard, about half a mile away from the market. This gorgeous space not only has their creations, but it also has the creations of their fellow makers from the market and artists they are connected with. The store is in a beautiful 1920’s building by Laurel Avenue. The central loft space creates a platform perfect for Sunny to paint her latest work, Sydney to make jewelry and for local bands to put on a show.
Companies from MTP featured in the store include Human Tree Robot, Purr and Sparrows Press, to name a few.
The store is a must-see space and definitely worth MANY visits. Stop by and see what they’re working on!
