24 Feb Celebrating Cinema at MTP!
It’s Oscar Season!
This Sunday at MTP, March 2nd, is also Oscar Sunday. Whether you are on the hunt for the perfect Oscar Party outfit or one-of-a-kind gifts for the cinephiles in your life, Melrose Trading Post has got you covered!
We scouted the market for selections inspired by our favorite nominees for Best Picture and here’s what we found:
FOR FANS OF… THE SUBSTANCE
Show your love for Coralie Fargeat’s body horror extravaganza with this illustrated tote from Matt Warren of Paper Eight.
We recreated Demi Moore’s iconic look from the film with an egg yellow coat and retro sunglasses from The Abyssss Vintage!
FOR FANS OF… WICKED
Artist Caitlin Riley of King Margot has a new series of her beloved matchbox prints featuring Galinda and Elphaba from the 2024 adaptation of Wicked! She also has matchboxes with the original 1939 Wizard of Oz crew.
Paper Eight also carries perfect t-shirt designs for fans of Wicked, with striking illustrations of Elphaba and Dorothy.
Of course, artist Noah Sturm has rendered the “Holding Space” meme into a parody of Michelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam” that we love.
FOR FANS OF… A COMPLETE UNKNOWN
Devotees of A Complete Unknown will enjoy hunting for vintage Bob Dylan merchandise at MTP! We found Dylan CDs and 8-tracks from MTP vendor Joe Gardiner’s collection.
Vendor Mario Lopez carries a printed ceramic tile with this classic photo of Dylan. Meanwhile, Jan Verdries has a print of Milton Glaser’s famous colorful poster for Dylan’s Greatest Hits album:
Plenty of vendors are well-equipped with leather jackets and vintage Levi’s to emulate Dylan’s signature fashion. We spotted these in Eva Meara’s booth.
FOR FANS OF… ANORA
Sean Baker’s Anora is one of the frontrunners in the Best Picture race.
Actress Mikey Madison told W Mag she wanted her character in the film, Ani, “to always be on her toes… high heels make you walk differently.” These shoes we spotted in Abel Silva’s vintage shop are reminiscent of Ani’s signature platform heels.
FOR FANS OF… DUNE PT. TWO
Juan of Mutante Leathers crafts one-of-a-kind headgear, clothing, and accessories from leather and found materials. His wearable art has a retrofuturistic flair that would fit right in with the attire from the space opera’s extraterrestrial desert worlds.
Dune enthusiasts must also explore the Way of the Hand at MTP. Ramiro constructs incredible bags, jewelry, belts, and more wearable pieces from leather, stone, metal, and other reworked elements.
MTP is also a one-stop-shop for film buffs everywhere. Here are must-see vendors for all you cinephiles out there:
JM Film Resins
Take home a literal piece of film history! JM Film Resins preserve archival snippets of film reels in resin that you can display in your home.
Last Looks Grooming
Make your living space smell like cinema with Michael Filippone’s movie scented candles. David Lynch fans will appreciate his candles and body care products inspired by works including Twin Peaks and Wild at Heart.
Rebecca Holopter
A new vendor at MTP, artist and actress Rebecca Holopter creates colorful portraits of favorite cultural figures and turns them into prints and stickers.
Melrose Trading Post is in the heart of the entertainment capital of the world.
