15 Sep Autumnal Whimsigoth Decor at Melrose Trading Post
No matter what your favorite aesthetic is, you can certainly find it among the 260+ talented vendors that set up at Melrose Trading Post every Sunday. With the Fall season and Halloween spirit around the corner, we sought out decor items that suit the viral “whimsigoth” aesthetic in the market.
This popular aesthetic melds a gothic influence with bohemian and magical touches and inspired by ‘90s fashion and design. Key touchstones include celestial decor, lush and velvety fabrics, flowing silhouettes, and ornate vintage objects and accessories.
According to the Consumer Aesthetics Research Institute, whimsigoth first experienced mainstream popularity from the late ’80s through the late ’90s, and has lately re-emerged in nostalgic revivals on social media. It was “contemporaneous with the peak popularity of gothic-inspired pop/rock music, Tim Burton, and the graphic design work of Margo Chase, Vrontikis, and a bit of Vaughan Oliver. Very popular in the fields of furniture, product, and interior design.”
Here are some whimsigoth discoveries to look out for next time you visit the Trading Post!
