Los Angeles, CA – The global recession has brought floods of people to appreciate the greener side of shopping at flea markets. Not only are they reusing previously loved goods, but they are also creating a higher demand for sustainable shopping. The weekly Melrose Trading Post flea market at Fairfax High School has experienced their best year with record breaking attendance numbers, scores of new vendors looking to start their own businesses and a necessity to expand seating and parking capabilities.
In response, on Sunday, November 4th the Melrose Trading Post will unveil their expanded food court. The expansion plans include a picnic blanket seating area, a new elevated live music stage, more food and beverage choices and more table seating. Local tea service guru, Adam Yasmin will be a new fixture in the market’s food court. The November 4th event will include a special musical performance by The Dustbowl Revival and new local food and beverage vendors testing out their treats.
2012 has been a great year for the Melrose Trading Post in regards to accommodating new vendors. With their newly approved permit they were able to expand from 180 vendors to 240 vendors each Sunday. These promising signs have arrived with good timing to help local entrepreneurs launch their businesses and to help Fairfax High School through the impending budget cuts to programs. Gaps in educational funding force the need for innovation, and these innovators will continue to grow with the changing times.
