Local, Sustainable Fashion at MTP

The Melrose Trading Post is an internationally known fashion destination, and the reason for this is the many local designers who set up at the market.

In this feature we’re focusing on companies like IMPRSSVE by Armando (pictured above) which are dedicated to sustainable practices in the sourcing of materials and construction of their garments.  We will be celebrating local and sustainable fashion at Melrose Fashion Week in March. Learn more here.

Armando’s website states, “We pledge to prioritize sustainability by embracing slow fashion, upcycling, and ethical sourcing. By choosing quality over quantity, we reduce waste and ensure that each piece in our collection carries a meaningful story.”

Miguel and Guille run Grandma’s Closet, a vintage shop where they create reworked designs from secondhand clothing.  Their innovative designs include combining multiple pieces to create a new piece, cropping existing pieces and adding details to pieces.  We’ve worked with them to crop our MTP t-shirts into cute crop tops for our online shop.

Lue Studios is run by Katie Chambers, where she creates reworked and one-of-a-kind pieces.  She’s known for her signature art-patch style, and even Benny Blanco bought a light blue satin jacket from her!

Brennon of Plastic Buckettt creates limited runs of reworked pieces and one-of-a-kind pieces ranging from clean minimalism to grungy streetwear, the collection is always evolving and growing.  He lovingly dyes and reworks pieces, with a big focus on sustainability and slowing the impact of fast fashion.

Clare of Tigers Labyrinth upcycles beautiful quilts into cropped jackets and longer robe-like jackets that MTP patrons cannot get enough of!

Joey of “Colored by Joey” finds quality secondhand clothing and paints on them to give them new life.  He can customize your favorite old pieces in his style too.
