LUNA INMIGRANTE POETRY READING

ABOUT THE POETS

  • Virginia Bulacio (@virginiabulacio) is an Argentinean writer, educator, and storyteller. She immigrated to the United States during her high school years and attended Fairfax High School during those years. She is a proud Fairfax Alumna and a supporter of The Melrose Trading Post. During the pandemic, Virginia focused on her writing to document stories about the undocumented community in Los Angeles. Her new poetry collection Luna Inmigrante reflects on issues of migration, dreams, survival, DACA and the immigrant journey.
  • Jesenia Chavez (@chabemucho) is a proud Chicanita from Los Angeles, a 17 year veteran public school teacher, storyteller and writer #redfored.  She is currently working on her MFA at UCR. Her debut poetry collection, This Poem Might Save You (me) is a journey through the streets of Los Angeles that explores intersectionality and the rituals of survival.  Find her on instagram @chabemucho and @quemecuentaspod, and in real life drinking fancy coffee at her local café.
  • Jona Velasquez (@jonazeuqsalev) is a Colombian American multimedia artist currently working on his first book Cuellos Sangrantes: Una Antologia de Historias Cortas, a collection of short horror stories in Spanish that follow a man addicted to blood. Jona studied Journalism at LACC and obtained a BA in Communication Studies from CSUN. He’s a traveler and works as a health promoter around the country providing free health screenings and health education to underserved communities.
  • Viviana Escobar (@manabreathwork) is a wellness expert and entrepreneur who is passionate about helping others find healing and growth. She has developed her own method of breathwork, called The Mana Breathwork Method, which she uses to help people break down the traditional separation between mind and body. This has led to a significant shift in the health industry. Viviana works with a wide range of clients, including Royal families, Diplomats, celebrities, and athletes, and offers workshops, classes, and individual sessions to people all over the world. She is also an author, and her first book, a collection of poetry, reflections, and meditations called “Bending Our Reality,” is set to be released in 2023.
