23 Aug My Melrose Trading Post Internship Experience! 🌸
Have you ever wondered what it’s like working at the most fabulous market, the Melrose Trading Post? Well, I am here to spill the beans for you! My name is Leilani and for the past ten weeks, I have interned for MTP through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission Summer Internship Program.Â
During the last ten weeks, I got to be a part of creating the Greenway Pop Up Shop from the ground up! Many of you may know about the Melrose Trading Post, but our mission this summer was to have everyone know about Greenway Arts Alliance as well! Greenway Arts Alliance is a non profit organization that unites communities through art, and runs the Melrose Trading Post as well as Greenway Institute of the Arts and the Greenway Court Theatre.
During my internship, I got to do fun things like picking out products and tie-dying t-shirts and tote bags for the store. Also surprise! I’ve been the one updating the MTP blog, as well as the MTP Instagram. If you visited the market anytime this summer, you most likely saw my handwriting on the main and corner stage chalkboards. Learning how to run a pop up shop was challenging, but very rewarding. Each week fellow Greenway intern Nicole and I, tweaked our set up and the way we organized the Pop Up to see what worked and what didn’t. I’ve learned lots about the logistics of running the market firsthand from Vendor Curator and Marketing Manager Natalie.
Interning through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission Internship program has been a very rewarding experience and I would recommend it to any college student looking for PAID! work experience in arts admin, or non profit organizations. I always knew about the Melrose Trading Post, but this summer I got to learn more about the family at Greenway. My favorite thing about Greenway is they truly are a community that gives back, and I am proud to have been apart of it this summer!
